Job Description

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics within the New Jersey Medical School. Our goal is to characterize putative ER-shaping proteins of Plasmodium, their functions in the parasite’s cell biology and their effect on parasite virulence. Additional projects focus on discovery of novel anti-malarials for use in prophylaxis, with an emphasis on targeting the parasite’s liver stages. We use tools of molecular genetics (gene knockouts, conditional protein depletion, CRISPR editing), imaging (confocal and super- resolution microscopy) and proteomics in P. berghei and P. falciparum. Candidates should have peer- reviewed publications, training in cell biology, imaging, and molecular genetics. Experience in parasite biology is desirable. Although previous experience with animal handling is not a requirement, the successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in our animal studies after an initial training period. A strong work-ethic, organizational skills and ability to work independently is expected. Interest candidates should contact Dr. Purnima Bhanot (bhanotpu@njms.rutgers.edu) with a CV.
